Network Rail maintenance

March 6, 2007

Work starts later this month on removal of a redundant stretch of platform on the eastern side of Ryde station.

The work, which will be carried out by Island-based Osborneís civil engineering contractors,on behalf of Network Rail, will begin on March 19 and will take approximately six months to complete.

The length of concrete platform - on the opposite site of passenger boarding and disembarkation points at the station - is exposed to the elements and has been out of use for a considerable time.

Its removal forms part of Network Railís routine maintenance and upgrading and will not effect rail services or passenger movements. The scheduled works are not part of Rydeís new transport interchange project.

Dyer & Buttler selected to deliver Ryde transport interchange

Regional civil engineering and construction specialist Dyer & Butler has been selected as the principal contractor for the new Ryde transport interchange.

The Southampton-based company has extensive expertise in wide-ranging and complex projects for public and private sector clients.

Dyer & Butler's Building Operations Manager, Chris Nicholas, said that the company was delighted to have been selected to join the project team for the prestigious interchange development. He added that the project was ideally suited to Dyer & Butler as it will draw on the combined expertise of the company's civil engineering, rail and building divisions.

Over nearly three decades, the company has delivered a broad spectrum of major projects throughout the south of England and south Wales, including highway, airport, railway, port and environmental schemes.

Dyer & Butler will also be engaging companies from on and off the Island to join its Ryde interchange team.

October 5, 2007

Gateway views of the Island are windows to its very soul. They are the shop windows that beckon visitors in and reassuringly welcome people home. They are special and they desperately need protecting.

Campaign and conservation groups around the Island have sent ringing endorsements to planners that the special vistas are worthy of very special measures. And they seem to have struck a chord with the IW Council. Just a few days ago, part of a group's case against a big redevelopment of Ventnor's Mill Bay Inn was the appearance of the building from the sea.

Ryde Interchange Work to Start in October

July 16, 2007

WORK to transform one of the Island's main gateways by creating a modern multi-million pound transport interchange in Ryde will begin in early October.

The multi-million pound Ryde Interchange project will draw together the hovercraft, train and bus terminals and taxi rank around one landmark development. It will be the largest project of its type ever undertaken on the Island.

The scheme will be far more pedestrian-friendly than the current arrangement while changes to the road layout will mean buses have shorter journey times bringing an environmental benefit. The police have been involved in the design stage of the interchange and it is hoped that once completed it will qualify for Secure By Design status.
